Ballet flats are back! Why you MUST add them to your shoe collection in 2024

The rebirth of ballet flats are finally at our feet, get it? WELL ANYWAY… they’re back and trending more than ever as you’ve probably already seen all over socials. Although more elevated to fit the modern fashion era, I feel as though there’s definitely a rekindling of the past when it comes to ballet flats today.

I had so many ballet flats lying around in the shoe section of my ugly wardrobe when I was a kid. I honestly loved them even back then, I vividly remember being obsessed with a pair my mum had bought me from M&S, they were gold metallic with a cute little bow. I wore the heck out of them… wonder where they ended up.

Personally loving this trend, it just screams a combination of nostalgia and femininity intertwined. Heres a few styles to consider before getting your first pair of ballet flats, or perhaps you’re thinking of adding more to your collection? look no further, I gotcha!

THE CLASSIC BALLET FLAT AND HOW TO WEAR

Classic ballet flats are simple and easy to work with in almost all scenarios. They give the illusion of elongated and narrowed feet giving off a feminine & doll-like touch, we can see an example of this in the image above. In my opinion classic black ballet flats work really well with work outfits but can also look really good with casual outfits like you can see below:

Need an outfit for your brunch date but don’t want to appear like you’ve put in that extra effort? casual but cute is always a good impression. You can also opt for a ballet flat of colour when going casual, maybe a nude/beige or earthy colour to give some delicacy. This will add a soft and delicate aspect to your outfit drawing you in to your feminine energy. Below is an example:

My personal favourite are the cherry red classic ballet flats, I just melt at the sight of them. So unique looking and stylish, may I add cherry red is a hot colour that’s currently in season (winter/spring) for 2024! Adds vibrancy and sexiness to an outfit.

Can be worn casually or when dressing up. I’d wear them with a pair of light blue straight leg jeans and a cute crop t-shirt or an oversized sweater if the weathers on the chilly side but you can totally wear them in a way that expresses your own fashion taste.

BALLET FLATS WITH BUCKLES AND HOW TO WEAR

If you want to go for that goddess with a touch of innocence look then a pair of ballet flats with buckles is definitely what I’d recommend! You get that extra support from the strap so these are what you should go for if you’re looking for practicality whilst staying fashionable and sweet looking. I absolutely LOVE how these look with crew socks… you can wear them with a short flowy dress layering over a white t-shirt channeling your inner Dorothy Gale or maybe just some wide leg jeans and a high neck t-shirt will do for a simple but elegant stance.

Many Hollywood stars are seen wearing ballet flats with buckles in 2024 from Katie Holmes to Hailey Bieber. Whatever your personal style, theres always room in your outfit for buckled ballet flats.

EMBELLISHED/MESH BALLET FLATS AND HOW TO WEAR

Ballet flats with embellishments are right up my street (that’s a British saying meaning that something is perfect for me) they are QUITE LITERALLY my favourite type of ballet flats. They give off a quirky but fun feel to your overall look and can really elevate a simple and effortless outfit. Can be worn with a simple outfit (casual or dressed up) and they’ll give your outfit that va-va-voom it deserves.

Mesh style ballet flats give off late spring/summery vibes, something about your toes being slightly visible but not quite is rather daring in my opinion and really exhilarates confidence to the outer world which we all need every once in a while. You know Rihanna’s famous “fake it till you make it” saying, well thats what I’m talking about. Wearing these definitely reinforces that with fearlessness seeping through.

There are more ballet flat styles, these were a few of my faves! I hope that this was useful for anyone who was stuck on the fence about ballet flats and how to incorporate them into your everyday style!
